Contact upload

If you have a large number of contacts you can upload them to Echo from a file rather than having to do each one manually.

If you want to add these contacts to a group, we recommend creating the group first, as you can add your contacts to the group as part of the following process.

The contacts system will store, first name, surname, a quickname and the mobile number, however your file can contain as much or as little data as you like and this will depend on how you obtain the data. I’ve prepared my data as below:

You can use a csv file with ‘,’ or ‘;’ as dividers or even a tab character, as long as only one of these is used in the file. I’m using a .xlsx file, but a .xls can also be used. Once you’ve got your file then you are ready to begin. If you select the Upload contacts option from the Contacts and groups menu, you’ll see this simple form:

Click the Choose File button and you’ll be able to browse your PC and any shared drives to locate your file:

When selected the file name will be displayed in the File field

If you put headers in your file like I did then put a tick in the “First row contains headings?” box Clicking Upload will take you onto the Column selection screen, this allows you to tell the system which data was in what column of your sheet, so if you have exported from a system and your file has 10 columns you can choose which you want to use. Simply use the drop menus to select. I’ve selected my mobile and first name columns, if you have surnames in your file then choose this too.

I’ve left quickname as Automatic, this will select the name details, but if you have a Nickname  or reference column you may want to select this. What you enter as the quickname will depend on how you want to call the contacts later when sending messages. As you do this the sample view will change, mine is displayed below:

Below the sample is a Preview Button, this will show you the sample as it will be uploaded. On the Preview screen there are a couple of options available to you. If you have a group created that you want to add the contacts to then you can enter the name in the Add to groups field

Otherwise you can either just Save the contacts or save and Send. The latter of these will take you to the Compose screen.
